Meet May Nivar
Like many families, mine came to this country believing in the American Dream — that with hard work, opportunity is possible. As a child of immigrants, I learned early the value of perseverance and community. I put myself through college, built a long corporate business career and raised three children in our public schools.
After more than 20 years in the Richmond region, I’ve seen the challenges our communities face — rising costs, unequal access to healthcare and education, housing insecurity, and threats to fundamental rights. Those realities are what moved me to step up and serve.

For over a decade, I’ve worked alongside nonprofits, businesses, and state leaders to strengthen our Commonwealth and expand opportunity, particularly for women, Asian Americans, and underrepresented communities. That work included serving on the Governor’s Virginia Asian Advisory Board and helping elevate civic engagement across our region.
Driven by a desire to deliver change at the state policy level, I ran for the House of Delegates. In 2025, voters in the 57th District chose me to represent them in the General Assembly, becoming the first Chinese American elected to any state level office in Virginia.

Today, I am honored to serve as your Delegate. I bring real‑world experience, a deep commitment to our community, and a focus on delivering practical results. Together, we can continue building a Virginia where hard work is rewarded, opportunity is within reach, and every family has a fair shot at success.
